Private water supply for Hotels & Hospitality

HighWater has established and support private water supplies for many hotels throughout Scotland and the North of England. In most instances these hotels are located in remote areas, where connection to the public water supply is not an option. However, many of these hotels have also established their own private water supply because, due to the volumes of water required, it is considerably more cost-effective than connecting to the public water supply.

HighWater’s clients include:

  • Skibo Castle – The Carnegie Club, near Dornoch
  • Cromlix House Hotel, near Dunblane
  • Inverlodge Hotel, Lochinver
  • Coylumbridge Hotel, near Aviemore
  • King’s House Hotel, Glencoe
  • Ballachulish Hotel, near Fort William
  • Peebles Hydro Hotel
  • Holbeck Ghyll Hotel, Windermere
  • Overskaig Hotel, near Lairg.

Case Studies

Skibo Castle

The Carnegie Club, near Dornoch, is one of the world’s most prestigious private members’ clubs. In 2014, HighWater was engaged to take over the ongoing maintenance of the various boreholes and associated water treatment equipment. Since then, we have upgraded various components of pumping and water treatment equipment associated with the private water supply.

Cromlix House Hotel

Owned by Scottish tennis superstar Andy Murray, and boasting a Chez Roux restaurant, the Cromlix Hotel provides high-end holiday accommodation in the Scottish countryside near Dunblane. Prior to the refurbishment of Cromlix in 2013, HighWater was asked to assess the options for providing a potable, pressurised supply to the hotel. The final system, designed and installed by HighWater, draws on an existing natural spring source derived from neighbouring land, together with a borehole water well. Both sources deliver water via a centralised water treatment shed to a centralised storage tank, from where booster pumps provide the pressurised supply to the hotel and associated buildings. HighWater continues to provide ongoing maintenance support.

The Coylumbridge Hotel

Until 2018, The Coylumbridge Hotel (formerly the Hilton Hotel Coylumbridge) and associated lodges received their water supply from a connection to the Scottish Water public mains. As a cost-saving exercise, The Hilton initially approached HighWater in 2014, requesting a feasibility assessment of establishing a borehole water well to provide an alternative supply to the hotel and associated lodges. In 2017, HighWater was engaged to drill the borehole and undertake all the civil works associated with connecting the new supply to the hotel. The new cost-effective installation was completed in such a way that the Scottish Water main is incorporated to provide automatic back-up in the event of a problem with the borehole supply.

Richard Petrie, Facility & Estates Manager
The Coylumbridge Hotel

We engaged HighWater with a view to installing a private water supply in order to reduce the running costs of the resort.

HighWater successfully drilled within the ground of the resort and installed a borehole water well system that virtually removed our reliance on the Scottish Water mains supply. The capital outlay will quickly be repaid now that the works have been completed due to the vast cost savings we have made.

HighWater were great to deal with and were very knowledgeable and their expertise and professionalism allowed the project to be completed with relative ease. A client manager worked closely with us during all of the works so we had one point of contact throughout the project and the engineers we met on the ground completed the works to the highest standard and were approachable and answered any queries we had at the time.

I would have no hesitation in recommending HighWater to anybody.
