Case Studies

Highland Spring

Highland Spring initially approached HighWater to request a site visit to assess the construction of one of the natural spring source catchment chambers used by their Speyside Glenlivet bottling plant. Our assessment established that there were various options for upgrading the design of the spring catchment chamber. HighWater’s recommended design proposal for refurbishing the source, using a bespoke stainless-steel spring catchment chamber, was accepted by Highland Spring. During preparations for the refurbishment works, it came to light that the landowner would not permit repeated transits of a dumper truck and tracked excavator across approximately 1.5km of sensitive peat upland to access the spring source. We therefore contracted PDG helicopters of Inverness to heli-lift the required materials to the spring site. We were lucky with the weather on the day! The project went to plan, and the new spring catchment chamber has been reliably delivering compliant water to the bottling plant.

William Brown, Group Water Resource Manager
Highland Spring Group

We worked closely with HighWater during our spring upgrade project and found the company to be highly professional and well organised, with staff that are both extremely knowledgeable and competent.

It was a pleasure dealing with HighWater and I would have no hesitation in recommending the company to others.

Ballindalloch Distillery

HighWater was engaged by Ballindalloch Distillery to design the process and production water supply to the proposed new distillery. The final design drew on a number of natural spring sources which were captured and delivered to a central water storage and treatment building, which in turn provides a gravity-fed supply to the distillery. A borehole water well, drilled by HighWater, was also incorporated into the water supply arrangements, to augment spring resources in the event of insufficient supplies due to seasonal variations in flow rate.

Bruichladdich Distillery

The Bruichladdich Distillery contacted HighWater to address problems with the famous Octomore Spring source, used by the distillery in the manufacture of their malt whiskies. HighWater’s scope of works included modernising and refurbishing the spring catchment chamber in order to minimise the risk of contamination by surface water run-off. We also installed an automated pumping system that enabled delivery of spring water to bowsers for delivery to the distillery.

Allan Logan, Distillery Manager
Bruichladdich Distillery

HighWater provided an innovative, cost-effective and reliable solution to upgrading the catchment and pumping arrangements for Bruichladdich Distillery’s Octomore Spring. Their staff worked on through challenging conditions to get the project completed – not least because of the midgies! The new arrangements designed and implemented by HighWater for transferring the water to the distillery have realised significant efficiency savings for our staff. Their servicing engineers have also provided a reliable service for a number of years undertaking the servicing of our water treatment equipment. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend HighWater.
